The African Leadership Group is launching its new Workforce Development Initiative with an exciting opportunity for college students and recent graduates to gain a competitive edge as they begin their careers.
As the Initiative’s first offering, ALG is sponsoring a limited number of full scholarships for The Early Career Edge, a four-week online professional development program from Skillsline, the Human Skills Company. The program helps participants develop—and communicate—the durable human skills employers increasingly value in today’s rapidly changing workplace.
Only six scholarships are available. Potential applicants should express their interest as soon as possible.
Artificial intelligence is transforming nearly every industry, but one thing hasn’t changed: Employers still hire people. In fact, as technology takes on more routine work, the qualities that distinguish exceptional candidates have become even more important.
Communication. Collaboration. Adaptability. Critical thinking. These are the durable human skills that technology can’t replace, and the very skills employers are looking for.
“This is exactly the kind of opportunity we want to bring to our community,” said Papa Dia, ALG’s founder and executive director. “Preparing young people for success means more than helping them earn a degree. It means equipping them with the confidence and professional skills that help them thrive in the workplace.”
Participants in The Early Career Edge will take part in a four-week online cohort that combines self-paced learning with live group sessions. Along the way, they’ll learn how to identify the valuable skills they’ve already developed through school, work, sports, volunteering, caregiving, leadership roles, and everyday life. And, just as importantly, how to communicate those experiences in ways that resonate with employers during interviews and throughout the hiring process.
This opportunity also marks the beginning of the ALG Workforce Development Initiative, a growing effort to connect young adults with high-quality learning experiences, career preparation, and professional opportunities that position them for long-term success.
Rather than building every program itself, ALG is committed to identifying outstanding partners and bringing those opportunities directly to the communities it serves.
