At the African Leadership Group’s Women Empowerment Initiative annual event, five extraordinary women were honored with awards. The categories were: Women in Entrepreneurship, Breaking Barriers, and Outstanding Student. Here is what some of the the winners had to say about themselves and their awards:

The African Leadership Group’s Women Empowerment initiative is  preparing for its big annual event, which coincides with International Women’s Day March 6.

My kids have been part of the ALG Youth Empowerment program. It has been very beneficial to my kids and my family.

In this country, many people celebrate Mother’s Day by taking their mother or spouse out to brunch. While this is a nice custom that shows appreciation, it would be a pity if the commemoration were to stop there.

The pandemic might keep us physically apart for a little while longer, but spiritually we remain bound together. That face was made clear yet again when the African Leadership Group conducted a high-spirited virtual celebration of International Women’s Day on Saturday March 6.

This was a triumphant election day for African immigrants in Colorado. We got to witness one of our community members,Naquetta Ricks, get elected as Colorado state representative for the House District 40.
