Become a Health Equity Ambassador: Help build a healthier community

Editor’s note: This article was written by Oluwadunke Afuye, an ALG member with a background in Public Administration, who enjoys developing and managing programs that improve access to resources, promote community well-being, and create lasting impact.

What if you could make a real difference in the health and well-being of your community?

At the African Leadership Group (ALG), we believe the most effective solutions to health disparities come from within the community itself.

When trusted community members have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to educate, connect, and advocate for others, entire communities become healthier and stronger.

That’s why we’re launching the Health Equity Ambassador Program: an exciting opportunity for passionate individuals to become leaders in improving community health.

Why health equity matters

Many families face barriers to accessing healthcare, understanding health information, or finding the resources they need to stay healthy. Language, culture, transportation, and trust can all affect health outcomes.

Health equity means ensuring that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to live a healthy life regardless of where they come from or the language they speak. Together, we can help make that vision a reality.

Become a trusted community leader

As a Health Equity Ambassador, you’ll become a trusted resource in your neighborhood by:

  • Connecting community members with health resources and services
  • Sharing reliable and culturally relevant health information
  • Promoting preventive health and wellness
  • Supporting outreach events, workshops, and community conversations
  • Helping identify community health needs and elevate community voices
  • Working alongside healthcare providers and local organizations to improve access to care

You don’t need to be a healthcare professional to make an impact. If you care about your community and enjoy helping others, we want you on our team.

What you’ll receive

As an ALG Health Equity Ambassador, you’ll receive:

  • Comprehensive health equity and community outreach training
  • Compensations for your time
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • Hands-on experience serving your community
  • Networking opportunities with healthcare professionals and community leaders
  • The opportunity to create lasting change in the lives of individuals and families

Whether you’re a student, parent, educator, faith leader, healthcare worker, retiree, or simply someone who wants to give back, your voice and experience matter.

Together, we can build healthier communities

Health equity is not achieved by one organization alone it happens when communities come together to support one another.

By becoming a Health Equity Ambassador, you’ll help bridge gaps, build trust, and ensure that more families have access to the information and resources they need to thrive.

This is more than a volunteer opportunity it’s a chance to become a leader, an advocate, and a catalyst for lasting change.
