ALG supports the opening of Mountain Juniper Montessori, a new public charter school in Aurora

Thanks to the advocacy of the African Leadership Group, a new public charter school will be opening its doors in Aurora this coming fall.

The school, Mountain Juniper Montessori, is part of the Wildflower Montessori Public Schools network and is special for several reasons.

First and foremost, Mountain Juniper Montessori embraces the Montessori philosophy of education, ensuring that students benefit from the expertise of specially trained teachers. Through a self-directed learning approach, students develop independence and self-confidence, engaging in hands-on activities and experiences that are thoughtfully designed to promote holistic learning.

In addition to its Montessori approach, this public charter school is free and open to all. Unlike the common perception that Montessori education is exclusively for the affluent in private schools, Mountain Juniper Montessori aims to be inclusive and accessible to all families within the community.

What’s more, Mountain Juniper Montessori operates under the micro-school model. This means that instead of having a single large campus, it is the first of several Wildflower schools that will be strategically located throughout the Aurora community. By doing so, the school ensures that families have convenient access to education in areas where the need is greatest.

This school exemplifies the positive impact we can have on the lives of students, families, and educators when we join forces and work towards big goals. ALG leaders and parents played a crucial role in advocating for the charter application approval and the selection of Aurora as the school’s location.

Now, we have the opportunity to provide our children with a unique educational option that meets their needs.

For families interested in learning more, here is a message from the school:

Dear ALG Families,

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you! Wildflower Montessori Public Schools of Colorado – Aurora is delighted to announce that enrollment is now open for our inaugural micro-school, Mountain Juniper Montessori. This public charter school is situated at 1330 S. Potomac St., Aurora, CO 80012, and caters to preschool and kindergarten children. Construction is already underway, and the first day of school is scheduled for September 5. This incredible endeavor is led by passionate Teacher Leaders. Don’t miss the opportunity to secure a spot for your child – apply now before capacity is reached!

To learn more about the journey leading up to the establishment of the school, we invite you to read a spotlight story featured in the Sentinel Colorado, where one parent emphasized, “This type of education is typically only available in a private school setting and unobtainable for a family like mine.” This achievement is indeed a cause for celebration.

ALG takes immense pride in its role in securing the approval of this charter school, and we remain committed to advocating for additional schools that best cater to the needs of our families.
