Papa M. Dia

Founder and Executive Director

Papa Dia is Founder and President of the African Leadership Group, an advocacy organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for African immigrants and members of the diaspora. Through social, economic, and educational empowerment programs, ALG helps families successfully integrate into their local community. A native of Senegal, Papa immigrated to Denver in 1998. He used his first job, stocking books, to teach himself how to read, write, and speak English. Beginning with an entry-level position in a local bank, over the next 17 years, Papa ultimately climbed the ranks to become a regional vice president. In 2017, Papa left his banking career to focus his full attention on running and growing ALG.

Juliet Sebold

Associate Director

Born in Liberia and raised in Sierra Leone West Africa, Juliet migrated with her family to the United States at the age of 12. Juliet attended the University of Northern Colorado, where she earned a Bachelors in Psychology, and a Masters in Public Administration with emphasis in Healthcare Management. Juliet has 5+ years of experience in working as a Case Manager and Social Service Professional, serving the community and providing guidance for those in need. Her expertise includes crisis intervention and providing support in the child welfare system, as well as in behavioral and mental health settings. She is dedicated to critically analyzing policies and programs and making pertinent recommendations. Juliet has taken on a leadership role with the Youth Empowerment Program where she mentors students and cultivates a platform for conversations about educational goals and leadership development. She has a passion of working with youth to enable them to succeed and be better citizens of the world.

Sylvia Karanja

Office Manager

Born and raised in Kenya, Sylvia Karanja moved to the United States in 2009. She went to Metropolitan State University of Denver and pursued a degree in Accounting. Two years in, she started working part time for a finance firm, where she ultimately spent 5 years before meeting Papa Dia, Founder and Executive Director of ALG. She started off as the Education Coordinator, and would oversee all ALG education advocacy initiatives, while also helping to manage and coordinate the organization’s many other initiatives and programs.
She is now the Office Manager for the African Leadership Group.
