Afrik Impact | Mission, Purpose
Mission: To celebrate the impact of the African Immigrants in the state of Colorado and to honor our accomplishments.
Purpose: With a focus on social, educational and economic impact, the African Leadership Group hosts a major Fundraising event each year. The purpose of this event is to celebrate our collective accomplishments, recognize our community champions, and cast the vision for our next year of policy and advocacy work. In addition, Afrik Impact is part of our public persuasion campaign to have the State of Colorado issue a proclamation to officially establish August as African Immigrant Month. In all of this, we celebrate loud and proud, the positive impact of African people in Colorado and honor our contributions. This yearโs theme is โStanding Taller and Prouder Than Everโ.
Covid-19 pandemic struck the entire world like a lightning bolt, school districts shutdown, businesses closed, living rooms became offices and schools, everyone had to self-quarantine. Our lives as we knew it suddenly changed in an instance!
The African Immigrant community reached out to us for help and we refused to watch our kids fall behind and fail in school, we were in a position to respond. We redirected resources to the needs of the community because this is what mattered in the moment. We moved all in-person programs to virtual!
With the support of donors and partners, we implemented the following programs:
- Remote learning pod
- Online tutoring
- Family Assistance Gift card
- Meal delivery
These were not programming we were doing before and no-one else was responding to the need.
