The purpose of the Public Speaking initiative is to meet the objectives
outlined in ALG’s mission statement – helping the African diaspora integrate and prosper by connecting cultures, developing strong community leaders, and advocating for economic, social and educational impact.
The Public Speaking course prepares students for a variety of situations in which formal and informal presentations are required. Topics will include cultural and generational conventions, speech, grammar, perceptions of others, verbal and nonverbal messages, and techniques of oral presentation and persuasion.
Through the Public Speaking course, students will have the opportunity to develop and strengthen skills in preparing and presenting public oral presentations in a variety of situations. Through feedback from the instructors, and classmates, you will gain insight into the tactics that work for and against you as a speaker. The goal of this class is to assist each individual student overcome their fears and instead build their content, their character and their confidence.
