Black History Month celebration: Breaking Barriers & Building Bridges

The African Leadership Group (ALG) warmly invites you to join us for our Black History Month Celebration: Breaking Barriers & Building Bridges, a powerful community convening honoring our shared history, resilience, and collective future.
This gathering brings together African American and African immigrant communities to celebrate Black history while creating intentional space for dialogue, healing, and unity. Through culture, storytelling, and community engagement, we aim to strengthen relationships and build bridges that advance collective progress.
The Breaking Barriers & Building Bridges initiative was launched to address historical divisions, foster understanding, and promote collaboration across the Black diaspora. Over the years, this work has shown that when we come together with openness and respect, we can build stronger, more connected communities.
This year’s celebration will feature:
- A keynote address by Dr. Ibrahima Seck, Director of Research at the Whitney Plantation Slavery Museum
- Community panels and facilitated conversations
- Healing drum performances and cultural expressions
- Opportunities to connect, reflect, and engage across communities
We encourage you to attend, bring your voice, and be part of this meaningful experience.
