African Leadership Group welcomes the distinct music of Ghanian musician Okaidja Afroso and his band September 27 at 7:30 p.m. to the Newman Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Denver campus. Okaidja’s Jaku Mumor project dives into his cultural roots by collaborating with Gadangme fisherman to share the full artistry of their a cappella singing and chants that awaken the spirit of the human soul. Ancestral traditions are combined with contemporary African music in this experience that includes dance and film.

ALG is an established Colorado nonprofit of 15 years created to serve the entire African immigrant community to help improve their quality of life. We do it through social, education and economic programs such as youth empowerment and public speaking classes reaching thousands of individuals. Every year during the month of August, we celebrate loudly and proudly the impact African immigrants have in the state of Colorado.
