Together we can build our community and make it stronger. We can identify programs that address the challenges we face in education, healthcare, criminal justice reform. We can inform and educate, and then eradicate the problems facing our community.

This was a triumphant election day for African immigrants in Colorado. We got to witness one of our community members,Naquetta Ricks, get elected as Colorado state representative for the House District 40.

This election saw many firsts: First woman vice president, first Muslim Colorado state legislator. And among those first, across the country, were many African Immigrants elected to office.

The electoral college, in its current design is clearly not working for many Americans. It presents many challenges. But a national popular vote poses challenges as well.

We urge everyone reading this who is a U.S. citizen to register to vote and to cast your ballot on time for it to be counted on November 3.

The African Leadership Group's free monthly legal clinic July 20 will focus on landlord-tenant issues, a highly relevant topic as state and federal eviction moratoriums expire.
