It has been a month since five members of the Diol family, Senegalese immigrants, perished when their Green Valley Ranch home burned in an arson fire. Authorities have been working the case diligently, but have made no arrests.
About one hundred people from several African countries and the U.S. attended a rally on the steps of the State Capitol Saturday, demanding justice for the Diol family. You can watch a video of that rally below:
Papa Dia, founder and president of the African Leadership Group, as well as spokesman for the Diol family, gave the crowd and update on the status of the investigation.
“The police, the entire state, the FBI are working tirelessly. And yet they don’t have a strong lead to identify who did it and why they did it,” Papa said. he urged people to use social media to share a Crime Stoppers flyer showing three masked people authorities believe set the fire.
“The only way we can be at peace is to catch these people,” Papa said.
Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen pledged to the crowd that his department would continue its aggressive search for the perpetrators. “Today and every day is about the Diol family,” Pazen said. “We will not tire, we will not rest until we hold those accountable for this horrific crime and bring justice to this family, the Senegalese community, and the people of Denver.”
