Leadership

We strongly believe that the most profound way to drive change in our communities, cities, and country is to build the kinds of leaders and advocates who can represent the African diaspora at every table. We provide many ways for community members to take on leadership roles, including through volunteering with our various initiatives, advocating with elected officials and political decision-makers, and through targeted training programs.

Recent leadership activities and programs include:

  • Encouraging and supporting community members to speak to the Denver Public School Board regarding transparency around school evaluation practices.
  • Rolling out the 5th¬†¬†cohort of our Public Speaking Class, a 12 week program that trains participants to become confident and powerful public speakers.

ALG PUBLIC SPEAKING CLASS

The Public Speaking Class is a rigorous 12 week program, with classes held weekly every Tuesday evening. Coursework includes reading, discussion, and ongoing opportunities to practice speaking in front of a group for feedback and active learning.

The course is taught by Madiama Mbaye, a successful teacher, entrepreneur, community volunteer, and local business owner who has a passion for inspiring others to find their voice. Madiama is originally from Senegal, and speaks 4 different languages.
