DESCRIPTION:ALG’s Legal Clinic and Advocacy Committee helps recruit and coordinate volunteer attorneys and legal professions to assist and enable Africans and the African immigrant community who find themselves entangled in the United States’ justice system. Through its pro bono legal clinics and workshops\, the Committee provides resources to assist community members with a wide range of legal issues and helps raise awareness about quality legal representation by connecting community members with appropriate legal services. DESCRIPTION:The popular class is part of our Leadership Initiative\, organized to meet the needs of individuals in the local community. This rigorous program helps participants develop and strengthen their speaking skills for a variety of situations in which formal and informal presentations are required. \nThe goal of this class is to assist each individual student in his or her battle to overcome their fears and build their content\, character and confidence. \nThe course format will include but is not limited to: readings\, discussions\, presentations\, and ongoing opportunities to practice speaking in front of a group for feedback and active learning. \nTopics will include cultural and generational discussions\, overcoming the fear of public speaking\, grammar\, perceptions of and by others\, speech preparation and delivery\, and the techniques of oral presentation and persuasion.

SUMMARY:ALG Youth Empowerment
DESCRIPTION:This group was designed to provide a space for our children and youth who are 2nd generation immigrants. In this group\, students are able to discuss about their struggles with identity and challenges in school\, at home and in their communities. \n\n\nDevelop a comprehensive understanding of ALG’s vision and mission and the impact the organization has on the community. \n\n\nUnderstand cultural trends that influence and affect adolescents and their families. and know how to obtain and use tools to implement change and be a good representative of their communities. \n\n\nCreate multi-generational relational programs and curriculum that enable a sense of curiosity and wonder. \n\n\nBe challenged to live beyond the status quo be actively involved in seeking information that will help them grow not only as individuals but as citizens of the world.
